Bring your Family to School – Correction: No Siblings/extended families please

As we near our week of events, please make sure we all follow the correct procedures.  Camarena PTA is very aware that not everyone is able to attend these events.

To clarify a few questions:

Bring your Mom / Dad to school:  Wednesday is assigned to moms only and Thursday for Dads only.  No siblings and/or extended families will be allowed to attend, due to the limit of class room space and timing.  Immediately at 9:30, you are invited to join us for muffins/donuts and coffee in the auditorium.  This is an opportunity for us parents to join our child in a journey of what happens in their classroom and learn with them.   If you have questions for the teachers, please feel free to contact them via email or set up a time to meet apart from this day.

Kick Off Assembly is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19th at 5:30.  You will have an opportunity to hear the journey of Zeke Moreno and Moses Moreno, former Charger NFL Players.  Our children will have their own time with one of them, as parents engage in the importance of staying involved in our children’s education.

Day of fun: all children must be accompanied by a parent.  There will be no exceptions.  We will be providing a BBQ for our families and there will be a fun game of soccer with staff vs. kids.  Event is from 2:30 – 5:00, food will be on a first come first serve basis.

Wellness Policy Meets Valentines Day

Celebrating traditions and special days is a great way to build a classroom family and encourage friendship and acts of kindness in our students.  Valentines Day is one of those opportunities to reinforce the best characteristics of friendship and camaraderie. More recently, it has become an opportunity to share candy to go along with those kind words.  Two years ago the Chula Vista Elementary School District passed our Wellness Policy (see below) in the attempt to promote healthy lifestyles that include lots of exercise and nutritious eating.  In order to remain consistent with that policy we are asking any students who bring Valentines to school (Bringing any kind of gift is voluntary, but if you do bring a note, you’ll need to bring one for every student in the class)  to refrain from sharing candy with their notes.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Hanover Survey

Every year the CVESD surveys all parents, staff, and students (grades 4-6) to hear what is working and what can be improved in our schools. This year you should have already received a link to the parent survey, however we wanted to make it available here as well. You just need to click on one of the links below to get to your parent survey. Students will be provided time to take the survey in class.

School Accountability Report Card

Since November 1988, state law has required all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a School Accountability Report Card (SARC).  A similar requirement is also contained in the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).  The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school.  A SARC can be an effective way for a school to report on its progress in achieving goals. The public may also use a SARC to evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators.
