More proof that multitasking is very ineffective.
In my excitement to see you all together again I forgot to mention your gift. We will be purchasing the Happiness Advantage for all teachers (Kindle edition to be fiscally prudent). The subtitle is, “The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work”. Hopefully the simple anticipation of receiving this book will make you a little happier today.
Enjoy Spring Break!
Before you get started with your Spring Break plans, be sure to put Saturday, May 30, 2015 on your calendar for our 2nd Annual Camarena Color Splash 5K run. Last year we had over 600 participants and this year we are anticipating over 1000. You can check out this video here with all the highlights.
And, here are some great running plans to help motivate you and your entire family to tackle this 5K adventure.
Get fit and have some fun together preparing for this unique Camarena community event.
I challenge any student, teachers and parents included, to write a Slice of Life using this picture.
Let’s see how creative we can be at Camarena.
Due March 20th :) Email me your Slice at firstname.lastname@example.org
1. Use your senses to describe what you see, hear, smell, and feel (touch and emotion).
2. Put yourself in the picture and write a Slice of Life from that point of view.
Here are the events for Camarena Elementary on this final week before Spring Break:
School Resumes Monday, April 6
Hanover Survey – Thanks to all of the Camarena families who have already completed the Hanover Survey to provide input on both Camarena Elementary and the Chula Vista Elementary School District. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey before we leave on March 20.
California Parent School Climate Survey, 2014-15
Every year, the state of California sends out the Healthy Kids Survey. The purpose of the survey is to obtain parent perceptions of student behavior and attitudes, school programs and policies, and the overall school climate as they relate to student well-being and learning. It deals with such issues as truancy, safety, harassment, substance use, school connectedness, and learning supports. The survey is a companion to the California Healthy Kids Survey and the California School Climate Survey for staff.
In order to take this survey please proceed to the Parent School Climate Survey site. You will enter the code:
Then Press “Take Survey”
Earth Day Camarena Style – Our creative and energetic Garden Club has created this introductory video in preparation for Earth Day and Earth Week activities in April at Camarena.
Service with a smile in the TK Kitchen space. Our TK students learn social skills during Discovery Centers led by their amazing teacher duet of Ms. Huezo and Ms deAlva.
Dr. Francisco Escobedo, Superintendent of CVESD made his biannual visit to Camarena to see what the Robo Griffins were learning. Here Sean gives him a tour of 5th grade math.
Ava is showing how she has solved her math problem using repeated addition, drawing, and manipulatives. Our students are gaining a deep understanding of mathematical principles from grades TK to 6th Grade.
The Soccer Team fought to a 3-3 tie with Discovery on Thursday. They are getting better and better every day and showing wonderful team spirit. I also appreciated the sportsmanship of both teams, including the sportsmanlike team from Discovery.
Today is Registration day and here is some information about our space in the coming school year:
Welcome to Camarena Elementary. We are excited to have you join our community of learners and we want you to understand what space is available for the 2015-16 school year. Our school has classes from TK through 6th grade and our capacity is approximately 1075. This current year we are overflowing approximately 40 students to other schools in the CVESD.
For 2015-16, we will most likely be in the position of overflowing a small percentage of students again this year. We have a total of 40 classrooms. Here’s how we select students for enrollment/overflow.
Students who already have a sibling attending Camarena will be automatically enrolled.
All other students will be enrolled based on a random lottery of all students who register by the end of our first day of enrollment (March 11, 2015). Students who enroll after March 11, 2015 will be placed based on the date and time of their enrollment. Families will be notified of the status of their enrollment by Friday, March 20.
The Correct dates for PTA events are as follows:
Tuesday, March 10 – PTA Executive Board Mtg.
Wendesday, March 18 – PTA General Election
Sorry for the confusion
