Elementary School Bathrooms

It may not be common knowledge to parents and visitors that children and adults have separate bathrooms on Elementary schools campuses.  We are working on modifying our signage here at Camarena to make that reality a little more visible.  We would appreciate your attention and cooperation in this matter.  Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Power Writing Marcial

3rd graders in Ms. Marcial’s class are writing with gusto on their daily quick writes.

Kinder writing witih supportsOur Kinder friends have learned how to use their alphabet chart to help them sound out words.

Jackson Math white boards

Showing Ms. Jackson their mathematical brilliance in 1st grade.

K white boards and math meyers

Kindergarten students are at the ready to learn some math from Ms. Meyers.

beautiful early morning

“On a beautiful early morning…” starts a wonderful narrative from our kinder friend who is sharing his story of riding his bike with grandpa on Veterans Day!  Love the power of the written word.

The week of November 10 – 14

We have a quite a unique week as we celebrate Veteran’s Day with a Tuesday holiday.  Here are the events of interest for this week at Camarena.

Monday, November 10 – Yes – We do have school.  8:15 AM sharp.  Please remember to be civil in the parking lot, abide by all those painted curbs, and keep the staff lot (Windingwalk St. entrance) for staff only.  Thanks to the vast majority of parents who patiently navigate the opening and closing of school and make sure our 1040 students arrive and depart in safety.  Tip for anyone who wants to avoid the hassle: Arrive 10 minutes earlier and you will be able to depart in peace and serenity.

Tuesday, November 11  – No School for Veteran’s Day. What a great opportunity to show our gratitude to all those who have served our country with honor and dignity.  Camarena says Thank You.

Friday, November 14 – 4:00 – 6:00 Camarena Harvest Party led by our Garden Club

Sunday, November 16 – Robotics Team Competition at Eastlake  High.  Good Luck and Go Robo!

Here are some of the highlights that came across my camera the past week at Camarena:

Partner talk writing

Students learn from one another through partner talk, peer editing, and rich conversation.  Here Srta. Barrett’s first graders are helping each other improve their writing.

Larson mathematician

We also learn from students successes and mistakes. Here Ms. Larson helps her students dissect both the good and faulty thinking from a student’s mathematical reasoning.  Students are becoming more adept at detecting strong and weak mathematical processes and attending to precision.  Makes me very confident that my future cardiologist could come from this group of careful mathematicians.

Winter Wonderland basket sign-up

Winter Wonderland is coming on December 12 (Save the Date) and classes have signed up for their theme baskets.  This was quite the popular item last year and no doubt there will be some great gift baskets for all you eager shoppers.

Pilgrims and Srta. Smith

It must be November as Pilgrims and Native Americans are showing up everywhere.  Here Srta. Smith’s budding actors and actresses take the stage to demonstrate the life of our 17th century friends.

Finally, all of our Camarena classrooms are in the process of developing and creating class blogs.  One of the biggest benefits of this process is that students can gain audience  for their writing more than just the classroom teacher.  We encourage family members to check out their student’s writing and leave comments to encourage them in their writing life.  Here is a list of our class blogs to date and a great tutorial on how to leave a blog comment from a 3rd grade teacher in Northern California.
